MD Editor

Terms of use

Last updated 2 October 2026

In short: MD Editor is a one-time purchase in the Microsoft Store. Your notes are yours and never leave your PC. The app is open source under the GNU GPL v3, and it comes without a warranty, so keep backups of anything important.

These terms cover MD Editor, the Windows app published by TopicDev ("we"). By installing or using the app, you agree to them.

1. The app

MD Editor opens, displays and edits markdown files on your computer. It works entirely on your PC and doesn't need an account or an internet connection.

2. Buying the app

MD Editor is sold through the Microsoft Store for a one-time price, shown in the Store before you buy. There's no subscription and nothing to buy inside the app. Payments, refunds and the licence to install the app on your devices are handled by Microsoft under the Microsoft Store terms of sale; ask Microsoft for a refund if you need one.

3. Open source licence

MD Editor is free software released under the GNU General Public License, version 3. Nothing in these terms limits the rights the GPL gives you. The app also includes third-party components, such as MathJax and the bundled fonts, each under its own licence; the full list is in the app's About window.

4. Your content

Everything you write or open in MD Editor belongs to you. We never receive a copy of it. You're responsible for your files, including keeping backups. The app saves drafts of unsaved changes to protect against crashes, but no software can rule out every loss.

5. Acceptable use

Use the app lawfully. Don't use it to break the law or anyone else's rights, and don't remove the copyright and licence notices that come with it.

6. No warranty

As the GPL says, the app is provided "as is", without any warranty, express or implied, including any warranty that it is fit for a particular purpose or free of errors. This doesn't affect any rights you have as a consumer that can't be excluded by law.

7. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for lost data, arising from your use of the app, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for it. This doesn't limit liability that can't be limited by law.

8. Changes

We may update these terms, for example when the app gains new features. We'll change the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the new terms.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Serbia. If you live elsewhere as a consumer, this doesn't take away the protection of the laws of your own country that can't be excluded by agreement.

10. Contact

Questions about these terms: support@topicdev.com, or the contact form.
